A woman in traditional attire rides a thoroughbred, well-groomed horse with a neatly trimmed mane. She wears a headscarf falling down her back, numerous ornaments on her chest, and tall boots. With one arm, she firmly holds a barefoot toddler in a round, pointed cap sitting in front of her; with the other, she holds a korok — a tall wooden pole with a lasso and a slipknot at the end. This device was used to catch mares for milking and preparing kumis. Before milking, a foal was typically allowed to approach the horse. The woman's face is barely visible, as it is turned toward her son. The horse, by contrast, has turned its head anxiously to see if the foal, which has fallen slightly behind, is following them. The composition is set on an oval base with a smooth plinth and a relief ground.
