The sculpture “Napoleon's hussar of 1806" (or "Hussar of the first Empire period", "HUSSARD 1806"), depicting a young mustachioed warrior in a bear hat with plumage, in dolman with four rows of cords and buttons, with a fur collar, in hoses and high boots. The raincoat roll is in front of the saddle, the saber in the scabbard with brushes is on the belt, a sword on long straps is hanging near the saddle. The hussar is sitting in the saddle straight and proudly, with his hands to his sides. The saddled horse is balancing steps, the saddle with high pommel and sharp-angled saddlecloth, in belt harness with buckles and snaffles.

The group is fixed on narrow rectangular shaped stand with relief that conveys stony ground and traces of hooves. The sculpture is complemented by wooden polished exposition pedestal in bronze frame, with bronze onlays and corner pieces in the form of winged griffins.

The sculpture was presented by the author for the first time during the Salon of 1899. The name is taken from the catalog of this exhibition.

The idea and execution of this model should be attributed to the large state order that Turgenev received at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries from the French government. It was necessary to create the entire gallery of sculptural images representing the French armed forces - grenadiers, cuirassiers, dragoons, African riflemen for the emerging National Army Museum.

Depicting units of the French cavalry troops, Turgenev chose the time of the Napoleonic wars - the most glorious period of the French military history. This work is devoted to the image of a hussar warrior.
