A scene depicting an attack by highlanders on soldiers serving as foragers is presented on a rectangular, vertically oriented sheet. A fierce struggle is taking place by a hay cart drawn by a pair of oxen, with two foragers fighting off highlanders who are attacking them from all sides. A forager standing by the cart fends off the attackers with a rifle butt, holding the weapon high above his head. An elderly highlander, whose figure is barely visible behind the oxen, deals a fatal dagger blow to the forager driving the cart. On the right, a highlander uses his entire body to hold back the oxen, holding a rifle in his high-raised right hand.
