Round salt cellar on three fluted ball legs, in neo-Russian style. The body with the edge in the form of a filigree plait is decorated with relief convex cannelures in filigree framing, filled with a plant pattern of fancy flowers and leaves, made in painted enamel over filigree. The intervals between the cannelures are ornamented with enamel-over-filigree images of stylised leaves placed on the brick-colour background.
The enamel colour scheme is built on a combination of shades of blue, white, yellow, green and red tints.
The "neo-Russian style", or the "style of national romanticism" was create by leading Russian artists, sculptors and architects at the turn of the 19th century: E.Polenova, M. Tenisheva, V.Vasnetsov, M.Vrubel, N.Rerikh, F. Schechter, etc., who combined in their work national and modern art. Recreated forms of Old Russia, ancient ornaments were artistically rethought and got a new edge One of the most conspicuous and original firm developing this style was F.Ruckert's workshop (Moscow). Its enamel works are characterised by particularly rich colour gamut and unparalleled ornamentation that evokes Old Russian art.
