The snuffbox in golden rectangular case with canted corners and a hinged lid. Rectangular plaque painted with polychrome enamels, depicting a classical scene from Homer's Iliad – the farewell of Hector, the chief Trojan commander, to his wife Andromache and son Astyanax is on the lid. The miniature is enclosed in a slender chased golden frame and dark blue enamel border. Along the edge, the lid is adorned with rose-cut diamonds in silver setting. The side panels and base are decorated with guilloché panels covered with translucent dark blue enamel and featuring a black-and-gold foliage pattern of winding stems and leaves over light blue enamel background.
