Golden rectangular snuffbox with canted corners, the cover mounted with a central circular forest agate panel within a fluted and guilloche frame flanked by panels of engine-turning within a similar border, the sides with similar engine-turned panels separated by pilasters, the base decorated with a relief bright-chased and matted acanthus and feather scroll patera, within similar frame, ground and border, in original green shagreen case. Footnote: Adrien-Jean-Maximilien Vachette was born in 1746, he completed 8 years apprenticeship and was registered as a master in Paris on 21 July 1779, at 3 quai de l’Horloge du Palais. He successfully resumed his profession after the revolution, entering into various lucrative partnerships until his death in Paris on 23 September 1839. (Nocq Vol IV, page 76)
