Vase depicting double-headed eagles with a sceptre and an orb
France, Nancy
1890-1896
Glass; enamel, gilding, blowing
10 cm
Signed: Daum Nancy
The "Imperial Russia" commemorative vase is crafted from colorless transparent glass, mold-blown to create relief ribbed (fluted) patterns, and decorated with polychrome enamels and gilding.
The body of the vase features a detailed rendering of the Russian double-headed eagle with imperial regalia (a scepter and an orb). The sides and reverse are adorned with light blue Crosses of Lorraine—the traditional symbol of the Lorraine region and the signature mark of the Daum manufacture from Nancy.
The vase was created between 1890 and 1896 to commemorate the visit of the Russian Imperial squadron to France.
