"Dragonflies" two-handled vase
France, Nancy
1895
Opalescent glass, multi-layered glass; etching, engraving, enamel painting, mold-blowing, cameo glass
Height: 14.5 cm, rim: 4 cm, base: 6 cm
The vase is made in cameo glass technique. It features a flattened spherical lower base –the "body", which smoothly transitions into an elongated cylindrical neck. The upper rim of the neck is decorated with an elegant gilded frieze showcasing stylized floral ornament. The vase is completed by two translucent glass handles shaped like dragonfly tails, connecting the lower part of the neck to the shoulders of the body. The composition is enhanced by a raised image of a dragonfly, its wings wrapping around the vase body, while the reverse side features blooming branches with gilded accents.
