The Bellecour Vase* is made of transparent and frosted glass. Four small birds (sometimes identified as sparrows) are perched on blackberry or berry bushes on the vase bowl horizontal surface, creating a contrast between the ‘urban’ name and the natural motif.

*Bellecour is one of the largest pedestrian squares in Europe, located in the centre of Lyon, France, between the Rhône and Saône rivers. It is a key tourist attraction with an equestrian statue of Louis XIV, serving as a venue for events and walks, originally created as a ‘beautiful courtyard’ (belle-cour) under Henry IV. The use of the name ‘Bellecour’ emphasised the status and significance of the item. The choice of name coincided with the heyday of Art Deco, when references to classical French architecture and toponymy were valued in design.
