Exhibits of the мuseum Сollection at the exposition "All Benois — Everything Benois"
The Manege Central Exhibition Hall, with the support of the St. Petersburg Committee for Culture, presents a large-scale intermuseum project "All Benois – Everything Benois ". This is a full-fledged encyclopaedia of Russian art, narrated through the destinies and legacy of one of the most brilliant creative dynasties in Russia. The exhibition will present the history of the family, as well as the cultural environment that the Benois formed and united around themselves.
The exhibition project "All Benois – Everything Benois" shows the audience a lot of unexpected connections and bold hypotheses. The exhibition includes more than 600 items – paintings, graphics, sculptures, costumes, documentary materials, personal belongings, household items, combined with a peculiar curatorial concept.
The project was created in partnership with leading Russian museums, including the State Hermitage Museum, the Peterhof State Museum–Reserve, the State Russian Museum, A. Bakhrushin State Central Theatre Museum, the State Tretyakov Gallery, the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts, Peter the Great Museum of Anthropology and Ethnography (the Kunstkamera), Museum Collection, the KGallery Art Gallery, etc. In total, more than 60 Russian museums and private collectors participated in the project.
Anna Yalova, director of the Manege Central Exhibition Hall: "The Benois Dynasty is rightfully considered one of the most influential and numerous among the famous artistic families, whose legacy has enriched not only Russian culture, but also had a significant impact on the development of art throughout the world. Anyone who came into contact with Russian art at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries inevitably came across names associated with this distinguished surname. Our exhibition sets an ambitious goal – to present a phenomenon of the entire family, to trace its roots, development and inexhaustible creative potential. Such a large-scale project has been presented for the first time, it is dedicated to the history of one family, covering more than a century and a half of their brilliant activity."
Pavel Kaplevich, curator of the exhibition, Honoured arts worker, painter, screenwriter, producer: "The leitmotif of this exhibition is the dreams of all Benois. We feel the images they create and carefully embody their fantasies. The ideas, forms and meanings created by this family find a new meaning nowadays. Alexandre Benois and his family open up to us outside the context of place and time; together with them we look into the historical past and travel to the future. All Benoit and Everything Benois!"
Svetlana Churaeva, Art Director of the museum Collection: "The items from the museum Collection repository illustrate the wonderful “ABC-book” of A.N. Benois. This edition was published at the early 20th century and to this day, the archives of JSC Goznak have preserved unique sheets with notes and watercolor dyeing by the artist. This is the first time they are demonstrated to the audience in this format, and it is a very spectacular decision by the curator of the exhibition Pavel Kaplevich to combine the author's illustrations and a wide variety of items. For example, the Russian letter "П" is illustrated by a painting by Zinaida Serebriakova and a parrot by Louis Quispe from our collection.
Obviously, this exhibition has become a real gift to everyone who is passionate about Russian art. On such a scale, with such a concentration of absolute masterpieces, many of which are being shown to the audience for the first time, no one has ever told the story of the Benois dynasty. Our great respect to the organizers of this exhibition and best wishes to the wonderful team of the St. Petersburg Manege."
The exhibition will run until April 19, 2026.
