Museums all over the world celebrate the holiday today – the International Museum Day. International Museum Day (IMD) is an international day that was established in 1977. The celebration is coordinated by the International Council of Museums (ICOM). The event highlights, a specific theme that is changed every year and that is at the heart of the international museum community’s preoccupations. Thus, in 2012, the jubilee year, the 35th anniversary of the holiday’s establishment, the theme was «Museums in the changing world. New challenges, new inspirations", in 2013 it was – “Museums (memory + creativity = social change)”, in 2014 - "Museum collections make connections", in 2015 - "Museums for a Sustainable Society", in 2016 - "Museums and Cultural Landscapes". In 2017, according to the decision of ICOM, the International Museum Day is devoted to the theme - "Museums and Contested Histories: Saying the unspeakable in museums".
