Photo album dedicated to the birthday of Evgeny Lanceray
Born on 24 August 1848, Eugene Lanceray was feeling interest towards sculpture at a young age. Despite the fact that he had no special artistic education, the Imperial Academy of Arts, where Lanceray presented his early works, immediately appreciated their depth and the sculptor's understanding of how to work with the form.
A great role in the formation of the prominent sculptor was played by his trips around Russia, travelling to England, France, Austria, Belgium and many other countries. Lanceray studied the works of famous French and Russian sculptors, visited museums, galleries and carefully observed.
The popularity of sculptural works by Lanceray was largely due to his artistic identity. He did not tolerate templates and stencils, and preferred the truthfulness of compositions to imitation of other people's works.
In total during his creative activity the sculptor created about four hundred works, many of which are stored in the Russian Museum, the State Tretyakov Gallery, the works of the artisan are presented in the museum "Collection" exposition.
Eugene Lanceray is deservedly considered to be the founder of the art direction – the Russian cabinet plastics, thanks to which the Russian sculptural school became known all over the world.
For the birthday of Eugene Lanceray we have prepared a photo album, which features the sculptor's works stored in the museum Collection.
The detailed biography of the sculptor is in the section “Authors/Producers”.
