Musical table clock with half an hour chime
France, Paris
late 19th century
Robert-Houdin, Jean-Eugène
Wood, brass, glass, velvet; casting, gilding, incrustation (stand)
A wonderful example from the Mystery Clocks series. A feeling arouses that the numbers and the hand are hanging in the air and the clock shows time by itself due to a thin transparent dial.
The musical movement is located in an oval wooden stand, decorated with inlay. Two switches "Jouer" and "Changer" are on the left-hand side; a cord for starting the musical movement is in the center.
Three keyholes for are in the clock rear side. The key is attached. Glass bulb is in the set.
