The girl plays a double aulos while balancing on one leg and lifting the other high. Her forward-leaning torso, bent knees and the position of her arms convey a lively rhythm, as though the music accompanies the dance. The flute extends diagonally, continuing the direction of the figure and enhancing the sense of lightness. A greenish patina emphasizes the smooth modelling of the bronze, while the austere dark-marble pedestal contrasts with the mobile silhouette. The ancient musical instrument becomes part of an image in which a classical subject is combined with the early-20th-century fascination with dance and the expressive possibilities of the human body.
