Dancer with torches
Dancer with torches
Germany, Berlin
Circa 1928
Bronze, ivory, onyx, marble (base), bakelite (torches); casting, ivory carving, cold painting
Hight 40,8 cm
Signature «F. Preiss» on the base
The almost acrobatic curve of the body gives the figure a sense of precarious balance. The dancer stands on the toe of one foot, arching her torso back and spreading her torch-bearing arms wide. Pale ivory exposed parts contrast with the bluish costume and dark torch tops; the tall green-stone base emphasizes the fragility of the figure
