The full-length figure of the Virgin Mary is located on an octagonal, multi-stepped base of green onyx, captured in a majestic pose on a stylized cloud. She is clad in a long garment smoothly falling in deep relief folds of drapery. The Infant Jesus stands nearby on a sphere, gently held by the Virgin; His hands are raised in a blessing gesture. The face and hands of the Virgin Mary, as well as the body of the Infant Jesus, are executed in ivory; the garments, the cloud at the foot, and the crowns are made of patinated and gilded bronze.
