Signed in Latin script and dated under the right arm: 1851 CORDIER
Waist-length bust of an African girl, turned 3/4 to the right. Depicted with downcast eyes, slightly open mouth, traditional African hairstyle, with drapery covering the chest. The image is complemented by large earrings and strands of beads with a pendant. The bust, mounted on a tazza-shaped base, is set on rectangular bonded marble base with gilded accents. The piece is cast in dark patinated bronze.
