The sculptural composition "Bashi-Bazouks" portraying two Turks with rifles in their hands, riding horses. (A Bashi-bazouk was a volunteer horse soldier, a guerrilla fighter in non-regular formations of Turkish cavalry. Bashi-Bazouks were notorious for their excesses and marauding to such a degree that the word Bashi-bazouk became a generic term to refer to a robber.) It is a fragment of the composition "Bashi-Bazouks, stealing cattle from Bulgarian peasants".
