Stamped on the interior of the lid with Parisian marks featuring the letters "A" and "R"; two gold marks in the shape of an eagle's head (18K gold) on the rim. Marks: "R" under a crown, and the mark of the fermier général (tax farmer) Henry Clavel
Oval snuffbox, crafted from multi-colored gold, features a hinged lift-top lid. The interior surfaces of the body are mirror-polished. The lid exterior side, bottom, and side walls are decorated with chased and engraved ornamentation, supplemented by applied elements of colored gold. The decorative design of the item includes oval reserves with polychrome enamel miniatures depicting pastoral scenes. The enamel inserts are framed by raised rocaille motifs and intertwining branches with leaves and flowers.
