Gold snuffbox, cartouche-shaped, with a hinged lid, with a thumb piece. The lid is decorated by chasing with a relief image of a scene from the ancient Greek myth of Perseus and Andromeda, where Perseus, accompanied by Eros, rescues Andromeda from the sea monster. The composition is framed by scrolls and rocaille patterns, as well as allegories of the four elements: a fish, a dog, a bird and a dragon, in the corners. The fluted edge of the lid is framed by a border imitating snakeskin. The sides and base are made of matte gold, imitating suede.
