A rectangular gold snuffbox featuring a hinged lid. The body of the snuffbox is covered with tortoiseshell panels. In the center of the lid, which is decorated with chased gold plates, is an oval miniature depicting a three-quarter left, waist-up portrait of Empress Joséphine. She is shown in a Gothic-style interior, holding a letter inscribed with "Austerlitz / 2.X.1806"
