A rectangular gold snuffbox with rounded corners and a hinged lid. The lid is mounted with two oval miniatures. The one on the left features a three-quarter length portrait of Joachim Murat, Marshal of France; the one on the right features his wife Caroline Bonaparte, sister of Napoleon I Bonaparte. Both portraits are bordered by dark blue enamel frames. The remaining space on the exterior surface of the lid is filled with floral ornament. The walls and base of the snuffbox are decorated with rectangular panels of dark blue enamel over an engine-turned (guilloché) background, with bands of floral and geometric ornaments.
