Rectangular gold snuffbox with a hinged flip lid and heel lock. The front panel is decorated with the marine landscape in a cartouche featuring distant mountains crowned by a castle, sailing vessels and rowboats with oarsmen. The spare space is covered with foliage ornament. This gold box / is Presented to Andrew Buchan / by the Rhymney Company /in testimony of the Estimation / in which they held his gratuitous services /in Superintending the Farming concerns /of the Company /1845
The bottom external surface features mountain landscape with bridge and staffage figures, enclosed in acanthus leaf frame.
