Gold round snuffbox with bevelled corners and a hinged lid. The enamel image of an Allegory of comedy - a girl with a mask in her hand and two children having fun at her feet is in the square in the lid centre. The case and the lid are decorated with foliage patterns of multicolour gold in the form of curls, flowers and shells of blue transparent enamel over guilloche background and with opaque blue, white and black enamel. The author of the picture "Allegory of Comedy" is a French artist Carl Van Loo (1705-1765). It is stored in the State Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts, it is a pair to the painting "Allegory of Tragedy". Both were commissioned by the favourite of Louis XV, the Marquise de Pompadour for her castle Bellevue.
