Louis XVI snuffbox with miniatures in the manner of Lioux de Savignac. Rectangular box with rounded corners, hinged lid, four sides and bottom set with glazed miniatures painted in watercolour and gouache on paper with the scenes depicting castles and gardens with figures in the foreground, the gold cage work mounts chased with inner palmette and outer husk border, gold-lined interior.
Mathis de Beaulieu was one of the best makers of gold boxes of the late Louis XV and Louis XVI periods.
