The plot of the cardholder is based on the episode of Ruslan's meeting with the Magic Head from A. Pushkin poem "Ruslan and Lyudmila". The work could be inspired by the inkpot by E.A. Lanceray "Ruslan", 1884.

The cardholder is made in the form of a Magic Head, the magnificent beard of which smoothly develops into the bowl. The figure of Ruslan on horseback, ready for a fight is on the bowl edge.
